MS, MD entrance exams cancelled in J&K after question paper leak

By Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR DEC 13. The entrance examinations for MS and MD courses in Jammu and Kashmir held on December 8 have been cancelled after the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) confirmed that the question papers were leaked. Dates for fresh examinations will be announced later.

The preliminary findings of the SVO, according to sources, have revealed the involvement of relatives of some politicians in the leakage. Role of the officials of the Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BPEE) too has not been ruled out. Investigation to identify the culprits is on.

A.R. Mubarki, chairman of the BPEE, said:

``We received a report from the vigilance organisation through the Government that the paper was out before the examination for PG courses... The next date for the examination will be announced soon.''

This is the first time since the BPEE came into existence that a leakage has been established. After the SVO revelation, the previous examinations conducted by the board have come under a cloud.

``We are here to conduct smooth and transparent exams. If there have been complaints in the past, then it is the job of the investigating agencies to establish that there were leakages,'' said Mr. Mubarki. ``We have provided important leads to the SVO in the present case. We will continue to cooperate with the vigilance in netting those involved in the scam.''

So far, police have arrested five persons, including a doctor working in a private nursing home and a school teacher. A special police team is investigating the case in Delhi, where many people have been questioned. Another team from Jammu is also on the case.

Police sources said that they had obtained leads indicating the involvement of the relatives of two politicians. ``We are still working on that.''
