Azad asks Naidu to quit first

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR DEC. 13. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and in-charge of Andhra Pradesh party affairs, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has asked the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to resign to pave the way for a "smooth inquiry" by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) into the allegations of corruption against him, the Minister, Tummala Nageshwara Rao, and the former Minister, Nettem Raghuram, over excess payment to liquor firms.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Azad said, "We honour the special court directions to the ACB and we also expect that they would implement the orders in letter and spirit. However, we fear that the ACB will not take up proceedings against the Chief Minister as it is an agency of the State Government."

The former Congress Legislature Party leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said they had raised the issue during the Assembly session for three days, but the Government had not replied to the issue and instead suspended Congress legislators from the House. "The court had vindicated our stand on the issue," he said, and demanded that Chief Minister resign on "moral grounds".

The APCC president, D. Srinivas, the AICC SC\ST Cell convenor, G. Venkatswamy, MPs -- Dasari Narayana Rao and Nandi Yellaiah -- the former PCC president, M. Satyanarayana Rao, and former MLAs, P. Janardhan Reddy, D. Nagender, D. Sridhar, Bomma Venkateshwar, J. Ratnakar Rao and T. Jeevan Reddy -- and others were present.
