Merchant-Shandilya duo triumphs

MUMBAI Dec. 14. Yasin Merchant and Ashok Shandilya, champions in their own right, delivered when it mattered to win the first-ever Bombay Gymkhana men's doubles (time limit) invitation snooker tournament on Sunday.

The team of former Asian champion and Asian Games medallist fought off challengers Manan Chandra-Cherag Ramakrishnan 677-581 in the best-of-11 frames final at the Bombay Gymkhana billiards hall.

The results:

Final: Yasin Merchant-Ashok Shandilya bt Manan Chandra-Cherag Ramakrishnan 677-581 (65-42, 25-82, 60-62, 69-48, 45-69, 66-37, 71-33, 80-54, 53-56, 42-70, 101-28).

Semifinals: Manan & Cherag bt Rafat Habib & Rupesh Shah 515-428 (81-37, 40-88, 22-48, 78-43, 83-31, 79-57, 98-27, 34-97); Yasin & Ashok bt Alok Kumar & Nalin Patel 614-296 (124-0, 55-54, 104-29, 117-8, 72-30, 72-50, 37-48, 33-77).
