Letters to the Editor
Sir, In the latest U.S. military onslaught against "terrorists" in Afghanistan on December 7 and 10, 15 Afghan children were killed. Even as the Pentagon expressed its "regret" at the loss of innocent lives, it sought to blame the "terrorists", saying they sought cover among the civilian population. This is similar to what Israel routinely says after its "targeted assassination" attempts of Palestinian leaders takes the lives of innocent bystanders. The revulsion and anger of people at the indiscriminate killing of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, and destruction of property, is compounded by their helplessness in stopping the atrocities.
Sadu Nanjundiah,
