J&K Assembly passes right to information Bill

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Dec.18. The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today passed a bill pertaining to right to information. The bill, drafted eight months ago, had to be forwarded to the select committee.

Today the bill was moved by the State Finance Minister, Muzaffar Hussien Beig, in the Assembly. The Opposition supported the bill with a note of caution that there was a need to follow it in letter and spirit for making governance fully transparent. The bill was unanimously passed.

With the passage of the bill, the people of the State can ask for any information from the Government records except those details relating to the security of the country or the State.
