Hope brightens for release of Nellore youths

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE DEC. 18. Hope of safe release of the two youngsters from Nellore who have been in the captiviy of Talibans in Afghanistan seems to have brightened with the Afghan Government announcing on Thursday that they were safe.

Vardaiah and Murali of a construction firm, engaged in laying the Kabul- Kandahar highway road, were kidnapped nearly two weeks ago by some unidentified persons, said to belong to Taliban militia. Since then there has been hectic activity by the Nellore M.P., V. Rajeswaramma, and the associate of the construction company and former M.L.A. of Atmakur, B. Krishnama Naidu. Both have taken up the matter with the Central Government.

A letter written in Telugu by the employees was delivered at the security wing of the construction company in Kabul earlier this week. Incidentally, the whereabouts of the kidnapped persons or the actual demands of the abductors are still not known.

Meanwhile, Mr. Krishnama Naidu, who was in Kabul this week to participate in the inaugural function of the highway, returned to New Delhi. According to Bollineni Seenaiah, a top functionary of the construction company, he met two Ministers of the Afghan Government, including the Foreign Minister.
