Wooing the youth to AirTel fold

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI DEC. 19. Target the young ones. That is what mobile the phone service provider, Bharti Tele-Venture, is aiming in Chennai. It has just launched AirTel MTV Club Card.

A pre-paid starter pack priced at Rs.199, it is designed to entice the youth into `going mobile.' The new pre-paid card is the culmination of a research that found higher SMS (short messaging service) usage among the youth. AirTel MTV Club Card offers 300 local SMS free. There is a rider, though.

This will have to be used up in the first ten days. Thereafter, 30 paise per SMS will be charged. The standard talk time on this card will be Rs. 50.

There will, however, be a `launch bonus' that gives Rs.50 worth of talk time free.

Local outgoing calls to other AirTel MTV Club members will be charged 99 paise per minute, says a company release.
