Over 1,200 students participated in the two essays, one on the state of governance and another on Telugu culture. The top prizes carried a gold medal and a cash prize of Rs. 3,000 each. The second prizes for the essays were won by T. Jyotsna of Dr.KRR Degree College, Duggirala, and S. Hemalatha of SG Government Degree College, Paleru, Chittor. A silver medal and Rs. 2,000 would be given to them. The third prize was bagged by S. Suresh Kumar of Silver Jubilee Junior Government College, Kurnool, and V. Nagaraj of MALD Government College, Gadwal. They get a bronze medal and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000. Four students won the consolation prizes and copper medals - G. Krishnaiah of Silver Jubilee Government Junior College, P. Durvasa Reddy, SRR Government Degree College, Karimnagar, S. Jayasankara Reddy of Swami Vivekananda Junior College, Tadipatri and D. Sindhu Devi of Government Girls Junior College, Nampally. The prizes would be given away at a special function to be organised at the Telugu University on December 26 and 27, a press release said.
