Hyderabad forces TN to follow-on

By Our Sports Reporter

Tamil Nadu's Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan is caught behind off N.P. Singh of Hyderabad during their Ranji Trophy match in Hyderabad on Friday.

HYDERABAD DEC. 19. Medium-pacer S. Vishnuvardhan's five-wicket haul helped Hyderabad enforce the follow-on against Tamil Nadu, which was bowled out for 240 in reply to the host's imposing 447, on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Elite-B match at the Gymkhana grounds here on Friday.

Resuming at 87 for three, Tamil Nadu lost S. Sriram (58, 5x4) in the first hour when Vishnuvardhan had him trapped in front. S. Sharath did reveal his class with some punishing pull strokes and square-cuts, but it was obvious that he was not going to stay for long, half-fit that he was, injured while trying to take a difficult catch near the fence yesterday.

He perished with his hesitant push to be caught at forward short-leg off off-spinner J. Shivaji Yadav. At that stage, Tamil Nadu was 136 for five and never quite recovered from that blow. This, despite a painstakingly slow knock from Sunil Viswanathan (50, 327 min, 233b, 4x4), who at one stage took 60 balls and 125 minutes to move from 11 to 13.

Fiaz Ahmed and Shivaji Yadav bowled well, giving good support to Vishnuvardhan.

Keen to pick the vital bonus point, Raju had no hesitation in enforcing the follow-on at the stroke of tea. Tamil Nadu was once again over-cautious in its approach, with the first 15 overs producing only 15 runs.

At close, the visitor was 37 for the loss of Dinesh Kaarthick. Skipper S. Suresh and Sriram were at the crease.
