Ex-MLA derides CM's claim on progress

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR DEC. 19. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee official spokesperson and former MLA, T. Jeevan Reddy, has ridiculed the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu's claim that Karimnagar district progressed on all fronts during the nine-year regime of the TDP. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Jeevan Reddy claimed that it was only during the Congress regime there was an all-round development in the district. The Congress, during its tenure, had utilised the available resources in the district and taken up the SRSP to utilise the Godavari waters and strived for the industrial development, the former MLA claimed.

He alleged that the TDP Government had shelved the SRSP flood flow canal and the Yellampalli projects which were accorded with all clearances. He also charged that the TDP Government had created unrest among the workforce with the closure of the Fertilizer Corporation of India, Anthargaon and Sircilla spinning mills and privatisation of Muthyampet sugar factory.

Refuting the Chief Minister's claim of Singareni Collieries Company Limited was made to run on profits under the TDP regime, he recalled that it was the then Congress Government both at Centre and in the State which announced a special package of Rs. 855 crores for revival of the SCCL when it was referred to the BIFR.

He said that the SRSP canal lining works were taken up as part of the agreement made by the Congress with the World Bank and the State Government neither allocated any additional funds for the project nor taken up the SRSP phase-II. He flayed the Government for talking about the SRSP Flood flow canal and the Yellampalli projects only during elections and remaining silent later.
