Blinding incident: teacher suspended

BHOPAL DEC. 19. Nine days after Ajay Yadav, a little boy studying at the Ravatpura village school near the Datia district headquarters in Madhya Pradesh, lost an eye allegedly after being beaten up by his teacher, the district administration today began the process of suspending the accused teacher on the charge of neglect and dereliction of duty.The incident in which Ajay was seriously injured took place at Ravatpura's Government Primary School on December 11.

The boy, who was rushed to a Gwalior hospital for treatment, has lost his right eye and the doctors are presently engaged in treating his wound which has become badly infected.When contacted, the Datia district Collector, Madhu Handa, told The Hindu that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate was conducting a probe into the incident.The accused teacher, Sukhdevi Sahu, was being suspended.
