Addressing presspersons here, he said the recent clashes at Siddapur, Nellihudikeri, and Sunticoppa should not be termed between Hindus and Muslims but between the Sangh Parivar and secular forces in Kodagu. The forum would organise a month-long "Souharda andolana" with a view to maintaining peace in the district from January 1. It would organise meetings at various places to create awareness among the people on the need to foster friendship and camaraderie, he said. The "Souharda andolana" would culminate in an "Anti-communal rally' to be organised at Gonicoppa. Invitations would be sent to leaders such as Laloo Prasad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Swami Agnivesh, and others, Mr. Subbaiah said. He blamed the Kodagu police for clashes at Siddapur and Nellihudikeri. He alleged that the police were hand-in-glove with the cadres of the Bajrang Dal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and other organisations affiliated to the Sangh Parivar. The disturbances and subsequent bandhs had hit the economy of the district, he said. He accused the Somwarpet MLA, Appachu Ranjan, of having a hand in disturbances in the district. Communal disturbances spoke of the "failure" of the Congress Government.
