`ISRO's research facilities are international class'

By Our Staff Reporter

NAGERCOIL DEC. 20. From a modest beginning of launching a rocket weighing nearly 45 kg about four decades ago, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has reached the stage of launching the Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).

This was because of the untiring efforts of the scientists, the Chief General Manager of the Liquid Propulsion System Centre of the ISRO at Mahendragiri, L. Muthu, said today.

Delivering the second convocation address at the St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering at Chunkankadai near here, he said that within a short span of 40 years, the ISRO scientists and officials had achieved international class research facilities at the space centres and even developed a spaceport at Sriharikota.

The GSLV was meant to fulfil the country's aspirations and could facilitate the understanding of the space environment better.

A deeper perspective could be obtained on the electro magnetic radiation emitted by the sun and various other subjects of interest such as continuous outpouring of solar plasma, magnetic field in space, bio-research in weightless conditions, space tourism, space manufacturing, looking down on earth in optical, infrared and microwave regions, interplanetary travel, etc.
