Musharraf's offer on Kashmir welcomed

SRINAGAR DEC. 20 . Separatist leaders in Kashmir have welcomed the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf's statement regarding the "setting aside" of the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir as a means to finding a solution to the problem.The ruling People's Democratic Party's chief spokesman, Basharat Bukhari, said the " latest peace moves by both India and Pakistan signify that the two countries are now keeping the aspirations of the people in mind. ''It is time to give a practical shape to these initiatives one by one."

Firdous Shah, chairman, Democratic Political Movement, said it was in accordance with the APHC constitution and could pave the way for bringing India, Pakistan and the Kashmiris to the negotiating table.

The chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat, Syed Ali Geelani, said: "Musharraf's statement is in line with the aspirations of those struggling for the liberation of Kashmir."
