10-wicket win for Karnataka

AHMEDABAD DEC. 20. Karnataka scored a 10-wicket win over Gujarat on the final day of their four-day Elite-B Ranji Trophy contest at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, on Saturday.

Resuming its second essay at 152 for five, Gujarat, burdened as it was with a first innings deficit of 143, was done in by young spinner Udit Patel, who polished off the tail.

With five points (including the bonus point) from this match, Karnataka is second behind Tamil Nadu in the group standings with 11 points with a game against Assam to go.

Reigning champion Mumbai took home first innings points from Railways in its Elite-A match at the Wankhede.

In another Elite-A contest in Delhi, the host, propelled by Rajat Bhatia's century and half-centuries by Gautam Gambhir and Ajay Jadeja, gained first innings points over Kerala.

In a drawn Plate-B contest in Aurangabad, Maharashtra's Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who scored a century in the first innings, remained undefeated on 207 in the second essay.

Elite-A:

In Mumbai: Mumbai 388 & 168 (V.G. Kambli 64, J.P. Yadav four for 41, K.S. Parida three for 39, S.N. Khanolkar three for 19) drew with Railways 198 & 121for four (T.P. Singh 31, Raja Ali 58 not out). Points: Mumbai 2; Railways 0.

In Delhi: Kerala 371 drew with Delhi 375 for six (Gautam Gambhir 78, Rajat Bhatia 104, V. Dahiya 36, Ajay Jadeja 60, Varun Kumar 30). Points: Delhi 2; Kerala 0.

In Vadodara: Uttar Pradesh 473 bt Baroda 249 & 217 (J. Martin 39, N. Mongia 88 not out, Pravin Gupta three for 50, Nikhil Chopra four for 75). Points: UP 5; Baroda 0.

Elite-B:

In Ahmedabad: Gujarat 210 & 172 (N.D. Modi 63, A.A. Christian 47, Sunil Joshi six for 59, Udit Patel four for 53) lost to Karnataka 353 & 30 without loss. Points: Karnataka 5; Gujarat 0.

In Guwahati: Rajasthan 288 & 115 (R. Raghuram five for 25, D. Vasu three for 31) lost to Assam 306 & 102 for three. Points: Assam 4; Rajasthan 0.

In Jamshedpur: Bihar 238 & 324 (Rajiv Kumar 56, Mohit Goyal 70, M. Dhoni 44, Mihir Diwakar 50, Gaurav Vashisht four for 69, Joginder Sharma three for 79) drew with Haryana 349 & 12 without loss. Points: Haryana 2; Bihar 0.

In Indore: Madhya Pradesh 454 drew with Tripura 266 (T. Roy 31, S. Mahesh 31, C. Sachdev 33, T.K. Chanda 74, Narendra Hirwani four for 81, Y.A. Gowalkar four for 75) & 177 for seven (R. Jaiswal 35, S. Mahesh 59, Hirwani four for 54). Points: MP 2; Tripura 0.
