The directive was given by the Upa Lok Ayukta, T.V. Ramakrishnan, on a complaint filed by K.P.A. Rasheed of Nallalam Bazaar, alleging irregularities in three construction works executed in the Cheruvannur-Nallalam grama panchayat in Kozhikode with local area development funds provided by the MPs, E. Ahmed and Abdul Samad Samadani. The Lok Ayukta told the District Collector to give instructions for proper supervision of MP-funded schemes by local bodies. It would ensure more transparency. Since the schemes mentioned in the complaint were completed in 1998-99 period, evidence was not available to support the charge. The Lok Ayukta, however, observed that the complainant had raised some pertinent points. The Lok Ayukta also pointed out action had to taken to ensure benefits of these schemes reached the people. For this, the schemes to be executed with MP fund had to be identified by the local people.
