Two arrested for selling pirated books

BANGALORE DEC. 20. The Upparpet police arrested, R. Srinivas (41) from J.P. Nagar and S. Sunilkumar from Rajajinagar for allegedly printing and selling pirated books in the city. Books, including Khushwant Singh's "The company of women" and Julius Fast's "Bad language" were found in pirated form.

The police raided two shops in Basaveshwar Nagar and seized 2,315 books worth Rs. 4.63 lakh. They also seized books that had not been bound from a printing press, the police said. Search is on for the kingpin of the racket.

Shops raided

The police on Saturday raided nine automobile shops and arrested four persons for allegedly selling fake spare parts of vehicle.

On receipt of information about the alleged sale of fake "Lucas-TVS" company's spare parts, the police raided the shops in Jayachamaraja Nagar. The names of the arrested persons were given as Om Prakash, Mujahid, Mohammed Hussein, Ashok, and Gul Bajaj. Spare parts of two-wheelers and four-wheelers worth Rs. 7 lakh were seized.

Lookout for doctor

The Rajagopalnagar police are on the lookout for a doctor, who allegedly duped the public of Rs. 24 lakh.

According to the police, Venkatesh, a resident of Erode in Tamil Nadu, who had opened the "Sai Gandhi" hospital had taken loan of Rs. 9 lakh from Rajani Jayakirthi and around Rs. 15 lakh from other persons for setting up the hospital. Some retired persons had also reportedly given him money. When he found it difficult to repay the loan, the doctor reportedly closed the hospital and ran away, the police said.

Ganja seized

The City Market police on Friday arrested Amarendra (26) from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly selling ganja.

The police caught the accused while he was allegedly selling ganja near a hotel on Srinivas Rao Street. Ganja worth Rs. 45,000 was seized from him.

Man dies in accident

One person died and three were injured in an accident at Kuvempu college bridge in Channapatna early on Saturday.

According to the police, a lorry hit the victims, who were on their way to Srirangapatna in an autorickshaw. While Anjanappa (42) died, Udaya Kumar (43), Babu (45), and Sanjeevappa (44) were admitted to hospital, the police said.

Woman ends life

A domestic quarrel led a housewife to commit suicide by setting herself afire on Friday night.

According to the police, the victim, Tulasamma (55) from Laxmanpuri, quarrelled with a family member in the house. Perhaps disheartened by the war of words, she poured kerosene and set herself on fire, the police said.

Pedestrian dies

A 70-year-old pedestrian was killed when a hit him on Hosur road on Friday evening.

The pedestrian, who suffered serious injuries, died on way to hospital, the police said.
