Simple shines on final day

KOZHIKODE Dec. 22. Simple Kaur Bhumrah underlined her growing stature, while Maharashtra boys and Andhra Pradesh girls emerged champions in the National junior weightlifting championships that concluded at the V.K. Menon indoor stadium here on Monday.

The final day belonged to 17-year-old Simple Kaur Bhumrah who broke the existing records in snatch, clean and jerk and total lift in the 75kg category.

The results:

Boys: 85kg: 1. Jaswinder Singh (Pun) (112.5kg snatch + 155kg clean & jerk, 267.5kg total); 2. B. Ram Mulleswara Rao (AP) (115, 140, 255); 3. Sanjay Singh Yadav (Utra) (112.5, 142.5, 255).

94kg: 1. Pradeep Singh (Pun) (117.5, 152.50, 270); 2. Manoj Jawalekar (Mah) (120, 135, 255); 3. Gaurav Kukresa (UP) (105, 142.5, 247.5).

105kg: Rakesh Pandey (Jhar) (107.5, 132.5, 240); 2. Rakesh Kumar (Har) (107.5, 125, 232.5); 3. Surya Bhan Yadav (Chts) (97.5, 122.5, 220).

Over 105kg: 1. Abhijith Gosh (WB) (115, 145, 260); 2. Melvin P. Jose (Ker) (125, 127.5, 252.5); 3. Prajwal Shetty (Kar) (105, 135, 240).

Girls: 75kg: 1. Simple Kaur Bhumrah (Mah) (95 (NR), 125 (NR), 220 (NR); 2. Romi Devi (Kar) (82.5, 100, 182.5); 3. T. Memi Devi (Man) (70, 92.5, 162.5).

Over 75kg: P. Spandana (82.5, 107.5, 190); 2. Tinto Thomas (Ker) (75, 90, 165); 3. Th Romita Devi (Man) (70, 80, 155).

Team championship: Boys: 1. Maharashtra (588 points); 2. Andhra Pradesh (574). Girls: 1. Andhra Pradesh (779); 2. Manipur (670).

Best lifter: Boys: Mohana Sundaram (TN); Girls: Renu Bala (UP).
