Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu have rightly objected to the Centre's decision to allow candidates to write the Combined Defence Services examinations in Hindi also. It is surprising that members from other non-Hindi speaking States have not objected to this. A similar facility has to be extended to all other languages; otherwise, it will amount to putting non-Hindi speaking people at a disadvantage. K. Ramachandra Rao, Mysore, Karnataka * * * Sir, This will help only those from Hindi-speaking States. It will pave the way for the dominance of Hindi-speaking people in the Armed Forces. K. Hari Krishnan, Tuticorin, T.N. * * * Sir, If, as claimed, this is being done "with a view to attracting talented youth from rural areas", candidates from non-Hindi areas should be permitted to take the test in the languages of their regions. Neither Hindi nor English is the language of the rural masses in the non-Hindi regions. V. Krishnamachari, Mumbai
