Raped to settle a score with parents

Lucknow Dec 22. A three-month-old girl raped by a youth to avenge his alleged insult by her parents is battling for life at a city hospital here.

Doctors attending on the girl, raped on December 15, today described her condition as `rectro-vaginal-fistual' wherein her urinal passage and rectum have ruptured. The treatment plan worked out by the doctors at the King George Medical University (KGMU) is prolonged and is likely to take more than a year, including repair of the genitals through plastic surgery. ``The process is painful and traumatic even for her parents,'' said a doctor.

Police, meanwhile, have arrested accused Kailash, a 25-year-old unemployed from Lakhimpur Kheri district where the crime was committed. Kailash had eloped with a girl to village Khairtali. But the girl's family traced the couple and thrashed Kailash. Since the young victim's mother Shakuntala belongs to Kailash's village, the accused held her responsible for disclosing his whereabouts. After `swearing to avenge the insult' Kailash allegedly took the infant to a nearby field and raped her. The baby was discovered by villagers after a few hours.

Doctors at a local hospital referred her case to KGMU where she was brought yesterday for expert treatment. -- UNI
