The Minister for Small-Scale Industries, R. Roshan Baig's younger brother, Rehan Baig, who has been arrested by the Stamp Paper Investigation Team (STAMPIT), has engaged the services of C.V. Nagesh, a leading criminal lawyer. Mr. Nagesh was the counsel for the former Chief Minister, S. Bangarappa, in the Classik Computer case, which was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Mr. Bangarappa and the former Chief Secretary, J. Alexander, who were accused of purchasing computers at inflated prices and causing loss to the exchequer, were acquitted of the charges. Mr. Nagesh was also the advocate for M. Veerappa Moily, who succeeded Mr. Bangarappa as the Chief Minister, in the infamous JMM bribery scandal. Mr. Moily was exonerated of the charges. In the sensational Shakeera Khaleeli murder case, in which Swami Shraddananda is the prime accused, Mr. Nagesh had appeared as the Special Public Prosecutor, while another leading lawyer, C.H. Hanumantharaya, was the advocate for Swami Shraddananda. Another well-known criminal lawyer, M.T. Nanaiah, is the consul for Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the stamp paper racket. An equally renowned lawyer, Tomy Sebastian, is appearing for the suspended Assistant Superintendent of the Bangalore Central Prison, Nanjappa, who has also been arrested by the STAMPIT on the charges of facilitating Telgi to run his business from jail. Mr. Nanaiah and Mr. Sebastian have been counsel for the accused in many sensational cases. Both of them have appeared for the underworld don, Muthappa Rai, in a large number of cases.
