While Bangalore is the first city to get DataOne, Pune and Kolkata will get it too in the first phase in January, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh will get the service in the second phase. The cost of the set-top boxes needed to access the service is still being worked out and will be affordable, Mr. Singh said. The broadband service for the domestic user comes with an initial price tag of Rs. 999 per month. With the value addition from DataOne, demand for landline connections was expected to surge and this would be the main revenue earner, he explained.
