On a day, when the weather Gods allowed the players to celebrate Christmas in considerable warmth, the talented trainee of Mayur Vasant in Mumbai, won his semifinals without any fuss, dropping just seven games in his two matches. Gladwin brushed past A.S. Suresh Krishna in the under-14 section in the morning in 46 minutes. He was equally severe in the afternoon against G.P. Prajnesh, winning the under-16 match in 54 minutes. It will take some effort from the other two finalists in the boys' section, Kinshuk Sharma and Vijayant Malik to stop his fine run. Gladwin has dropped only 18 games in four matches in the under-16 event and 10 in five matches in the under-14 section.Though he played defensively, Malik showed a lot of character in getting past V. Vignesh in the third set tiebreak after squandering two matchpoints in the 12th game. Kinshuk defeated Paras Thakur. In the girls' event, Shivika Burman stopped top-seeded Parija Maloo 6-4, 6-0, her second win in three meetings this season against the best under-14 girl in the country. The athletic Shivika, a trainee of Tejbir Singh Bhandari in Kolkata, has been gaining considerable experience in the US this season, and that showed in her game. Parija was tired after a three-setter in the morning when she had failed to drive home a 5-2 advantage in the second set against Sanjana Kapoor. In the afternoon, she could hardly move or serve. Shivika will meet Daksha Mulay, who ousted the second-seeded Anukriti Prasad in straight sets, with her better serves and a good double-fisted backhand. Parija will also be tested in the under-14 final, when she takes on the favourite G.K. Shweta of the NTA, who dismissed Shivika for the loss of four games. The results: Boys: Under-16 singles (semifinals): Peter Agnel Gladwin bt G.P. Prajnesh 6-1,6-3; Kinshuk Sharma bt Paras Thakur 6-0, 6-3. Under-14 singles (semifinals): Vijayant Malik bt V. Vignesh 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1); Peter Agnel Gladwin bt A.S. Suresh Krishna 6-2, 6-1. Doubles (final): Krishna Karsolia and G. P. Prajnesh bt Yuki Bhambri and Debendra Das 6-3, 6-1. Girls: Under-16 singles (semifinals): Shivika Burman bt Parija Maloo 6-4, 6-0; Daksha Mulay bt Anukriti Prasad 6-4, 6-3. Under-14 (semifinals): Parija Maloo bt Sanjana Kapoor 6-3, 5-7, 6-2; G.K. Shweta bt Shivika Burman 6-2, 6-2. Doubles (final): Karina Ahuja and Sanjana Kapoor bt Shivika Burman and G. K. Shweta 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
