Panel recommends suspension of IAS officer

By Prafulla Das

BHUBANESWAR DEC. 25. A House Committee of the Orissa Assembly has recommended suspension of an Indian Administrative Service officer for alleged disobedience, misconduct and causing loss of revenue for pecuniary gain.

The officer, Prafulla Chandra Mishra, while working as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Orissa State Beverages Corporation had allegedly caused a loss of Rs. 2.3 crores to the Corporation by ``committing irregularities'' in the procurement of excise adhesive labels.

Mr. Mishra is already under the scanner of the State Government's vigilance department, which has registered three cases against him for his alleged role in the OSBC scam.

The Committee also recommended suspension of the General Manager (Finance) and Assistant Manager (Finance) of the Corporation for their role in the ``misappropriation''. ``The allegations against the officials and malfunctioning of the Corporation are well found and the same had been proved beyond doubt,'' the Committee observed in its report, while recommending that the Department concerned should initiate stringent action against the erring officials.
