CII team calls on Goh

SINGAPORE DEC. 25. The Singapore Prime Minister, Goh Chok Tong, has held discussions with a visiting Indian business delegation on how the two countries could explore new avenues of "strengthening the bilateral economic partnership."

Mr. Goh expressed the hope that the ongoing negotiations between India and Singapore could lead to the signing of a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement (CECA) by early next year, in time for his planned visit to India, according to his Press Secretary, Burhan Gafoor.

Mr. Goh, who has been chosen for the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding, is expected to travel to India to receive the prestigious award.

The Confederation of Indian Industry Vice-President, Anand G. Mahindra, led the business delegation, which included N. Kumar, among others.

India's High Commissioner to Singapore, P. P. Shukla, participated in the dialogue that has become an annual event, ever since Mr. Goh first received a CII team about a decade ago, setting off what came to be known as an "India fever" in this city state.
