Racket in fake resident certificates unearthed

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Dec. 27. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have unearthed a racket in fake Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs) and forged stamp paper operating in rural Jammu, particularly in the border belt. It is believed a senior administrative officer was involved in the scam. In the State only a holder of this certificate can buy land, get a State Government job and avail other special privileges. Investigations show that the gang had cheated several persons so far and the suspected "king-pin" was Rattan Singh. The official record seized from the Deputy Commissioner' s office shows that 563 Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) were issued up to October 31, 2002.
