Violence declines in Jammu & Kashmir

JAMMU
DEC. 27.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government said today that there was a substantial decrease in violence in the State after the India-Pakistan ceasefire came into force on November 26.
An official spokesman said that not only the borders were quiet, but militancy-related incidents, too, showed a 32 per cent decline compared to the corresponding month last year.
Against 342 incidents during this period last year, only 221 incidents were reported after Id this year.
Civilian killings, too, had come down significantly. While 41 civilian lives were lost, this number was 67 during the corresponding period last year.
On the casualties suffered by the security forces, including police personnel, 18 men were killed during the ceasefire month as compared to 30 in the previous month, indicating a decline of 40 per cent.
The spokesman said that 103 militants were killed during the ceasefire month as compared to 142 in the previous month.
