On the reversal of the stand of the Government and its handing over the investigation of the racket to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Mr. Shettar said perhaps "internal pressure" within the Cabinet and mounting public opinion made the Government take the decision.
He said the Government had no option but to agree to the CBI inquiry.Mr. Shettar said the recent decisions of the Cabinet indicated that the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, was planning early Assembly elections. The Government had decided to announce power supply in three phases to rural areas during the day, and sort out the imbroglio over the crop insurance scheme.
Along with the CBI probe, these constituted three of the four demands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he added.
