Brushing aside the argument of some political parties that the promise cannot be implemented, Mr. Srinivas said the party had worked out the economics before coming out with the assurance. Addressing party workers here, the PCC chief said the party, if voted to power, would bring down the fee of students in professional colleges. The party would work out as to what best could be done for the economically backward sections of society. It would provide 90 per cent subsidy to farmers under the micro-irrigation and drip irrigation schemes. The PCC president said employment avenues would be generated by encouraging industrialisation and exploring avenues of marketability of products. The Congress would spend Rs.200 crores a year for creating awareness in people on the ill-effects of liquor consumption.
