Two rag-pickers beaten to death

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD DEC. 27. In a macabre incident, a person went berserk in the Nizamabad RTC bus stand area and allegedly beat to death two persons, who were fast asleep near the shopping complex corridor in the early hours of Saturday.

Police sources said that Bahadur (35), a Nepali, went to the area carrying a huge stick. Eight rag-pickers were sleeping there and when he began to swing his stick six of them took to their heels. The other two -- Shankar (35) and Laxman (40) -- who were fast asleep in the freezing cold, were not so lucky. They were allegedly beaten to death.

Later, Bahadur went round the place carrying the blood-stained stick terrorising people. An auto-driver, who made a vain bid to nab him, informed the SP's camp office, which is hardly a km away. Immediately, two constables rushed to the spot but failed to catch him. Bahadur could be arrested only after four more constables joined them.

The Superintendent of Police, N. Madhusudhan Reddy, and other officials rushed to the place scene of offence. The accused had come to the town hardly a week ago.
