Digvijay blames himself for Congress rout

Indore Dec. 27. Describing the Congress rout in the December 1 Assembly polls, as ``unexpected,'' Madhya Pradesh's former Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh, today took the blame on himself for the defeat.

Indicating that the anti-incumbency factor had influenced the poll outcome, Mr. Singh, addressing newspersons at the Press Club here said, ``In 1977, there was an anti-Congress wave while the "Ram lehar" led to my party's defeat during 1989-90. Probably the people desired change and I couldn't properly assess it.''

He admitted that the Bharatiya Janata Party had greater campaigning resources and its electioneering machinery was more successful. ``That may also be a reason for my party's defeat,'' he added. — UNI
