Why treat us on a par with AIADMK, Baalu asks BJP

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI DEC. 27. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today faulted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for treating it on a par with the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Replying to the BJP State president, C.P. Radhakrishnan, the former Union Minister, T.R.Baalu, said people would realise the truth of his remarks, which sought to place on the same plane the AIADMK, which was responsible for the defeat of the BJP-led Government at the Centre by a single vote, and the DMK, which tried to save the Government.

Commenting on the BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu's statement that when one party went out another came in, Mr. Baalu said the future would tell who was out and who was in. He asked why the BJP forgot the unpleasant experiences it had with the AIADMK.

The DMK was unable to understand why the BJP was craving for a relationship with the AIADMK, whose leader, Jayalalithaa, accused the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani of ``selective amnesia'' and described A.B. Vajpayee as ``a non-functioning Prime Minister,'' Mr. Baalu said.

The DMK always had the national interest at heart, he said and asked whether it was wrong to demand that the Union Government intervene in the Cauvery issue or highlight the problems in the implementation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
