Vedic conference in Madurai

MADURAI DEC. 27. A three-day meeting of Vedic scholars, Regional Vedic Conference, was inaugurated by Gnanendra Saraswathi Swamigal of the Swarnapuri Math, Hubli, here yesterday.

O.P. Pandey, member and secretary, Maharishi Sandipini Rashtriya Veda Vidya Pratisthan (MSRVVP), Ujjain, who delivered the keynote address, honoured the scholars. The programme was organised under the auspices of the MSRVVP along with Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.

Later, scholars chanted the Rig, the Yajur, the Sama and the Atharvana Vedas.

Eight Vedic experts from Kerala, 13 from Andhra Pradesh, eight from Karnataka and 25 from Tamil Nadu took part in the conference, representing the Rig, the Krishna Yajur, the Shukla Yajur, the Sama and the Atharvana Vedas.

The afternoon session was split into academic session I and II, during which Veda parayanam was performed.

In the evening, Goddess Meenakshi was taken in a procession, in a golden chariot, to the Meenakshi-Sundareswarar temple from the conference venue at Tallakulam, with scholars reciting the Upanishads.

Earlier in the day, a Veena recital was organised.
