Jharkhand Minister escapes unhurt

Medininagar (Jharkhand) Dec. 27. The Jharkhand Land and Revenue Minister, Madhu Singh, today escaped unhurt, but nine persons, including two policemen, suffered injuries when some anti-social elements resorted to stone throwing at the Minister's function in Palamu district.

The police formed a human chain around the Minister and took him to safety as soon as the stone-throwing began, the Superintendent of Police, Naveen Kumar Singh, told PTI here.

The Minister was to distribute cheques under the Indira Awas Yojana to the residents of Tarhasi village. The police used mild force and fired seven rounds into the air to bring the situation under control.

An assistant sub-inspector, R.B. Singh, suffered head injuries.

The DSP, Manilal Mandal, is camping at the spot with additional forces.

Earlier, the driver of the Minister's vehicle changed route when a group tried to obstruct the road midway.

Today's incident was a sequel to the Minister's alleged remarks that he would not take any development work in one of the blocks in Medininagar, as he had no support base there.
