Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
The magician, Gopinath Muthukad, gave lessons to a group of children who had assembled at the Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi. "Practice is the only way to excel in this field. Children are the future of this country and the best ambassadors to spread Gandhiji's message of truth, love and non-violence," he said. Interacting with more than 80 students from different parts of the State, Mr. Muthukad said: "Magic is a science, presented in an art form, and it creates excitement in the mind of the audience". The magician began his class by distributing sweets conjured from a magic box. He later revealed the trick behind quite a few magical acts. The children were encouraged to perform the tricks. A rope-magic act was performed to make the children aware of the land's religious diversity, with each hue of the Tri-colour representing the major religions of the country. Earlier, P. Gopinathan, chairman of the Gandhi Smarka Nidhi, inaugurated the camp. The camp has been organised as part of `Gandhi Mantra', a project put forward by Mr. Muthukad. The project has been declared by the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, as a mission to spread Gandhiji's ideals through magic all over the world and has the blessings of the President of India. The global part of this programme was inaugurated during the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations held in London. Magic kits priced between Rs. 150 and Rs. 250 are also available as part of the camp, which willl conclude on December 28. The participants of the camp will be awarded certificates and gifts.
