Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
The Thiruvananthapuram North MLA, K. Mohankumar, expressed concern over the tardy progress of works being executed by the Public Works, Water Supply and Health departments. He called for speedy tendering of works and stern action, including blacklisting of contractors who had abandoned projects midway. The Deputy Speaker's representative highlighted the need to commence work on the administrative blocks of the Mariyapuram ITC and the Dhanuvachapuram ITC. He demanded the filling up of vacancies at the Parassala Government Ayurveda Hospital and the purchase of furniture for the hospital with the balance amount from the MLA Fund. The meeting called for speedy disbursement of funds under Scheduled Tribes welfare programmes. Representatives of three-tier panchayats complained that officials were delaying the issue of feasibility certificates for beneficiaries of welfare projects. The Collector, K.R. Muraleedharan, promised stern action against the erring officials. He said a meeting of officials would be convened shortly to discuss the progress of welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes. The Collector directed officials to ensure that they took part in District Planning Committee meetings. He warned that disciplinary action would be taken against officials who failed to turn up. Mr. Muraleedharan underlined the need to complete the ongoing works before the end of the financial year. The meeting evaluated the various works taken up by the Agriculture, Ground Water, Scheduled Castes and Tribal Welfare, Rural Development, Industries, Handloom, Minor Irrigation and Health departments. The progress of the works was assessed at 60 per cent. The District Planning Officer, P. Thulaseedharan, and district officials also participated.
