Cusat Syndicate meeting decisions

KOCHI DEC. 27. A syndicate meeting of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) held here today approved the appointment of Jacob Philip of the Department of Instrumentation as the director of Sophisticated Test Instrumentation Centre, a joint venture of Cusat and the State Government.

The two-year appointment will be on deputation basis.

V. N. Sivasankara Pillai would be appointed as director of Rural Development and Appropriate Technology. C. P. Girijavallabhan will continue for the next two years as the director of Centre for Excellence in Laser and Optro-electronic Sciences.

The syndicate also decided to form an Entrepreneurship and Business Development Centre in accordance to the scheme under the National Entrepreneurship Development Board and entrusted the vice-chancellor with the task of finalising the details of a project under the Promotion of Indian Higher Education Abroad programme of the University Grants Commission.

The new programme aims at promoting Indian higher education abroad.

The Vice-Chancellor, N. Unnikrishnan, presided over the meeting.
