By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Dec. 27. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will inaugurate 52 newly-constructed "Nirmala" toilets on Monday.

The BMP has adequate funds to build an additional 120 Nirmala public toilets according to the Minister for Bangalore City Development, R. Ramalinga Reddy. Currently, there are 27 such pay-and-use public toilets in the city. All have been constructed to a uniform design which facilitates easy maintenance while keeping them clean.

The Rs. 500-crore project started to provide protected drinking water supply and drainage facilities in the seven city municipal councils and one town municipal council around Bangalore were expected to be completed by the end of 2004, Mr. Reddy said.

The Rs. 300-crore sewage treatment and recycling plant for the city was almost complete and it was likely to be commissioned next August, he said.

For improving public transport facilities in Bangalore, tenders were being invited on behalf of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation for construction of additional bus bays in various bus terminals, Mr. Reddy said.
