According to the police, the incident took place around 2 a.m. at the house of Lakshman, manager with Flora Steels at Kenchanakuppe village. The dacoits first assaulted the watchman and then entered the house by breaking open the main door with boulders. They threatened and then assaulted Lakshman and his wife, Rama Devi, and took away the gold ornaments, the police said. The culprits also ransacked the house. The ornaments taken away included four gold bangles, four rings, a chain, and Rs. 10,000 in cash. Before leaving the place, they tied Lakshman and his wife and locked them up in a room, the police said. The dacoits wore shorts and vests and spoke Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. The police suspect that the gang could be the same as the one that looted Rs. 3.50 lakh from a lorry owner's house in Keshavapur police station limits in Hubli a few days ago. The Bidadi police have registered a case of dacoity.
Two houses burgled
Two houses were burgled in the city on Friday night. Thieves entered the house of a BEML employee in Vijayanagar police station limits and took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 50,000. According to the police, the thieves entered the house of Shivakumar in REMCO Layout through the balcony and made away with the cash and gold ornaments. Shivakumar and members of his family who were in the house learnt about the incident only on Saturday morning, the police said. The Vijayanagar police have registered a case. In another incident, thieves broke into the house of Bhattacharya in Lake City apartments in Madivala police station limits and made away with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 60,000. The thieves entered the house by breaking open the main door when the family was away. The Madivala police have registered a case.
Hotel employee robbed
A seven-member gang waylaid Shekar, a hotel employee, assaulted him and took away his wrist-watch and Rs. 7,500 in cash in Koramangala police station limits on Friday night. According to the police, Shekar was on his way home on his bicycle after work when he was intercepted around 11 p.m. by the robbers, who also took away his bicycle, near Koramangala Kalyana Mantap, the police said. Shekar who suffered a stab injury was treated in a hospital. The police have registered a case of robbery.
