Sir, As if the existing controversies over reservation in government services on the basis of caste are not enough, the Prime Minister has advocated reservation in the private sector also. No doubt the backward castes deserve support because they have been exploited for centuries. But there is a limit to everything. Merit should not become the casualty.

Sir, The main argument in favour of reservation is oppression of the underprivileged over several millennia. But reservation also prevents deserving candidates from getting their due. The objective should be the uplift of the oppressed by taking steps to make them competitive, not removing competition.
