Chandrika's charge against Ranil

Colombo Dec. 28. The Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, today accused the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, of ``using'' her takeover of Ministries to justify the failure of talks with the Tamil Tigers, saying the Norwegian-backed peace process had failed even before the political crisis began.

``The Prime Minister is trying to use the President's taking over of three Ministries as an excuse to justify the failure of the peace process,'' Ms. Kumaratunga's office quoted her as telling a State radio programme today.

The two-page statement in Sinhalese said the peace process with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had stalled eight months ago.
