Two players share lead

TUTICORIN DEC. 28. Top seed R. Balasubramanian of ICF (Chennai) and C. Praveen Kumar of Madurai are leading with 4.5 points each at the end of the fifth round in the State annual open chess tournament here on Sunday.

Important results: Open: (fifth round): R. Balasubramanian (ICF) 4.5 drew with R. Preetham Sharma (SR) 4; P. Phoobalan (Cbe) 3.5 lost to C. Praveen Kumar (Mdu) 4.5; C. Natarajan (ICF) 3.5 drew with R. Utham Sharma (Tvr) 4; M. Raj Mohan (Mdu) 3 lost to Ram S. Krishnan (Che) 4.

Under-17 (fifth round): B. Saravanan (PCA) 5 bt T. Vishnupriya (Ngl) 4; R. S. Ganapathy Ram (Ttn) 5 bt Joe Winfred (Ttn) 3.

Under-11: M.G. Giri Selvam (Siv) 4.5 drew with A. Nagarjuna (Siv) 4.5; N. Pragadeesh (Siv) 4.5 drew with M. Sivachidambaram (Siv) 4.5; A. Sajan (Ngl) 4 bt A. Ajith (VIL) 3.

Under-13: (fourth round): V. Balakumar (Che) 4 bt R. Nanduja (Siv) 3; A. Aravind (Kup) 4 bt N. Ashwin (Ttn) 2.5; M. Vijayashankar (TTN) 2 lost to Eswar (TTN) 3.5.
