Khumukcham keeps lead

KOZHIKODE DEC. 28. Khumukcham Singh of Manipur drew with Prasanna Rao of Maharashtra to maintain his sole lead after the seventh round of the 17th National under-9 chess championship at the Chess India Complex here on Sunday. With two rounds left, he has 6.5 points, half-a-point ahead of Prasanna, L. Sreeharsha of Andhra, Sumit Kumar Banerjee of Orissa and Samrat Ghora of Bengal.

J. Mohana Priya of Tamil Nadu and Priyanka Kumari of Jharkand are leading in the girls' section with 6.5 points each, following their victories over Mohana Sengupta of Bengal and Veena Mounica of Andhra, respectively. In the second place are six players with 5.5 points each — Mohana Sengupta, S. Gayathri and A. Asha Meera of Tamil Nadu, Tejaswini Reddy of Andhra, Rucha Pujari of Maharashtra and Padmini Rout of Orissa.
