An eventful day for Orissa CM

By Prafullah Das

BHUBANESWAR DEC. 28. It was an eventful day for the Orissa Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, on Sunday. He was forced to skip all his official work, as he had to travel in a jeep after his helicopter force-landed at Kiakata in Sambalpur district due to bad weather. Mr. Patnaik, who had a 27-km-long bumpy ride from Kiakata to Rairakhol town, paid Rs. 500 to the driver of the jeep at the end of his unusual journey. Apart from those who accompanied Mr. Patnaik from Bhubaneswar, two others also travelled with him in the jeep. "It was a day of adventure and freedom,'' a relieved Mr. Patnaik told The Hindu after he returned to Bhubaneswar in the evening.

Mr. Patnaik had flown from Bhubaneswar at 10-15 a.m. to go to Jharsuguda in western Orissa where he had to lay the foundation stone for a road, attend a district-level review meeting and participate in a few other functions. He was accompanied by the BJP legislator, Dharmendra Pradhan, a cameraperson of the Public Relations Department and his personal security officer.
