Abducted Indian workers return
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI
DEC. 28.
After experiencing a harrowing two weeks in captivity in Afghanistan, the two Indian construction workers, G. Varadayya and P. Murali, returned to their homeland this evening by an Ariana Airlines flight. Appearing dazed and tired upon their arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, the two did not speak to presspersons and quickly made off in a taxi which had been arranged by their company.
The two, who knew only Telugu, found it difficult to speak to the media. The only thing Mr. Murali conveyed was that they were not ill-treated by their abductors.
Working for the BSC-CNC group in Afghanistan, the two were abducted by unknown persons on December 6, when they had gone shopping in the southern Zabul province. Subsequently, the Taliban spokesperson had claimed responsibility for the incident and the release of 55 of its prisoners was sought in return for their release.
