In a statement, S. Suresh Kumar, convener, questioned the need for the medical and dental colleges sanctioned during the past two years, saying that those who came out of private medical colleges were `not doctors' and that they were `dangerous to society.' He called for a people's movement against `degradation' of the medical profession. The committee, he stated, favoured inspection of all private medical colleges and hospitals by the MCI in view of the lack of teaching staff. The inspection should be in the presence of the media. Dr. Suresh Kumar urged all political parties to come out with their stand on the issues raised by junior doctors on twin issues of GO 90 and private medical colleges. He said the committee was ready for an open debate with anybody, including the Government, on any of the issues. Meanwhile, the City committee of Students' Federation of India, extending its support to the junior doctors' agitation, asked the Government to withdraw the GO. K. Chandramohan, president, in a statement said the JAC of students would organise a dharna at the AP Vydya Vidhana Parishad's office on Monday and a bandh of educational institutions on December 31 expressing their solidarity with the strike.
