BJP seeks details of affidavit on scam

By Our Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR DEC. 28. H.N. Ananth Kumar, President of the State unit of the BJP, today expressed doubt whether the Government would be able to take action against the guilty in the stamp paper racket.

Addressing presspersons here today before starting the second part of his party's "Janasangharsha Yatra" in Mudigere, he alleged that there was an attempt to cover up the issue.

Mr. Ananth Kumar said that the BJP would continue to raise the matter until it was taken to its logical conclusion. He urged the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, to inform the people about the contents of the affidavit the State Government was planning to file in the Supreme Court.

Referring to the statement of the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, B. Janardhana Poojary, that the case should not have been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he said this would cause doubt whether the Government would cooperate with the agency. Describing the Government's decision to hand over the investigation to the CBI as a victory for the BJP, Mr. Ananth Kumar said the Government feared another reprimand from the Supreme Court.

He demanded the arrest of the Minister for Small-scale Industries, R. Roshan Baig. He said underworld and foreign elements were involved in the racket, and B.S. Yediyurappa, BJP leader, had sought a CBI inquiry three years ago. The delay had caused evidence to be destroyed and helped those involved to escape, he added.

`Bangalore Chalo'

Mr. Ananth Kumar said that the BJP would organise a rally in Bangalore demanding the arrest of Mr. Roshan Baig, and a "Bangalore Chalo" programme on January 3. He expressed confidence that lakhs of farmers would participate in "Bangalore Chalo". Mr. Ananth Kumar expressed condolence at the death of Kushabhau Thakre, former BJP President.
