Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
"Most of the roadside trees here are old and their roots have spread to residential premises. If they grow further, the foundation and walls of several houses may get damaged. So such trees have to be removed," according to R.N. Nyatappa and R. Revanna of the area. Participating in a grievance meeting organised by the Rajajinagar Nagarakira Hitarakshana Vedike, they suggested that the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and the Forest Department plant trees systematically to avoid inconvenience to citizens. The residents also complained about the traffic problems in the area due to the work on the Rajajinagar grade separator. The one-way system evolved to facilitate the construction of the grade separator was causing problems, K.B. Basappa, Sriramaiah and Swamy Rao said. Shifting of a post office from Bashyam Circle to 4th ``N'' Block in the area, improper maintenance of urinals and public toilets, and the failure of the authorities to asphalt cross roads and interior lanes besides the problems cause by the underground drainage system in the vicinity of Bashyam Circle and MEI Polytechnic were some of the other issues raised by the residents during the meeting. The Rajajinagar MLA, S. Suresh Kumar, and the area corporator, G. Srinivas, who heard the residents, promised that action would be taken soon. Mr. Suresh Kumar asked the Vedike to organise such meetings in the nine wards of his constituency. "Such meetings should be conducted at least once in three months. It will not only help us solve the problems of the residents but also make us (elected representatives) accountable," he said. Stating that officers from the civic body should be invited to the next meeting, Mr. Suresh Kumar and Mr. Srinivas promised to present an action taken report on the complaints then.
