Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
Though three persons were spotted at the scene of offence, eyewitnesses told the police that "two were seen attacking J. Ramesh with swords." The third person was waiting on a motorcycle some yards away from Niagara Hotel. While one of the attackers was aged about 50 years, the other was 35 years old. The two-wheeler, on which the culprits fled from the offence site, was traced to a resident of New Malakpet, Vijay Kumar. However, he was not available when the police went to his residence. The two victims -- R. Srinivas and Ramesh -- were partners in Siti Cable network for the old city area. Om Prabhu, maternal uncle of Srinivas, who was earlier one of the directors of Siti Cable, fell out with them few years ago. Since then, Srinivas and Prabhu had been making allegations and counter-allegations against each other. Some criminal cases were pending against Prabhu in different police stations. Two years ago, an attempt was made on his life at Begumbazar by his opponents who fired at him. While one of the attackers died after Prabhu returned fire, he himself sustained a bullet injury. Few months ago Srinivas was picked up by Task Force officials on the charge of possessing explosives and a firearm without valid licence. After his apprehension, members of Srinivas's family held a press conference saying there was serious threat to his life from his opponents. They accused the police of partisan attitude and supporting rivals of Srinivas.
