The Chief General Manager of AP Telecom Circle, Sanjay Kumar, unveiled these plans in a presentation on the status of telecom activities in the State to the Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Ashok Pradhan, here on Monday. He informed the Minister that the BSNL had become the number one cellular service provider with 5.3-lakh-subscriber base (3.7 lakh pre-paid and 1.6 lakh post paid). As for broadband network, fibre to home at all important stations would be the ultimate plan, he said. A new platform of Alcatel for mass calling facility would be made operational in three months and the switching equipment had already been received. Another plan was to provide Direct Internet Access Services (DIAS) to nine additional cities -- Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Bhimavaram, Tanuku, Eluru, Guntur and Nellore. He said the BSNL would shortly extend its network for additional 114 cities and towns for e-Seva services of the State Government. Other new value added services to be introduced include distance education, Internet TV on telephone lines, e-Commerce and video telephony to the fixed line customers on the existing network in collaboration with the content providers.
